Summary
Monica (“the extension”) does not transmit your personal data to a developer-operated server. Data is stored only in your own browser and, optionally, in your own Google account’s Drive appDataFolder. The extension contains no analytics, tracking SDKs, or third-party ads.
Data we read and store
- Bookmarks, folders, settings (stored in chrome.storage.local)
- Custom icon blobs and wallpapers (stored locally in IndexedDB)
- Authentication tokens (Chrome extension storage; never sent to a developer server)
- Weather location (default: Tokyo; user-editable; only sent as a query to Open-Meteo)
Use of Google user data
The extension uses only the following OAuth scopes, requested incrementally as you enable features:
- openid / email / profile — Display the signed-in Google account
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly — Read-only display of Google Calendar events
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks — Read and update Google Tasks
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata — Read/write a single sync file inside the extension-private appDataFolder (no access to your other Drive files)
Google user data obtained via these scopes is handled in accordance with the Limited Use requirements of the Google API Services User Data Policy and is used solely to provide in-product features. It is not used for ads, sold to third parties, or read by humans.
Sharing with third parties
The extension does not share user data with any third party. Data flows only between your browser and your own Google account.
External network calls
- Google APIs (accounts.google.com / googleapis.com) — OAuth and integrations you explicitly authorize
- Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) — Weather data. No API key, only location coordinates are sent
Deletion
Uninstalling the extension removes local data. The Drive sync file can be deleted from Settings → Data details.
